Being surrounded by loud noises on a regular basis may seem like an obvious consequence of serving in the Army, Royal Navy or Royal Air Force. However, the Ministry of Defence owe a duty of care to servicemen and women, like any other employer.

Military Deafness – Can You Claim?

“Many of those who have served in the armed forces may already be aware of how to claim for the injuries they have sustained in service – for example, through the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) and the War Pension Scheme. However, the qualification threshold for these schemes is difficult to meet and as a result many ex-forces personnel are not compensated for their injuries.”

You may claim civil compensation in addition to these payments if your noise exposure was caused by negligence and/or breach of statutory duty. Even if you are still serving, or served before 1987 when Crown Immunity was still in force, or your application for the above schemes has been rejected, you may still be entitled to compensation.
